📘 New User Guide: Posting, Markdown & LaTeX
Welcome to Gatekeepers Forum!
This guide will show you how to use the forum, format your text with Markdown, and write math with LaTeX.
1. Basic Features
Starting a New Topic
- Click “New Topic” on the homepage.
- Choose a category, write a title and body, then click “Create Topic”.
Replying
- Use the reply box at the bottom of a topic. Click “Reply” when you're done.
- To quote someone, select their text and click “Quote”, or manually use
> at the start of a line.
Uploading Images
- Drag and drop images into the editor, or click the image icon in the toolbar.
- Wait until the image path appears in your post before publishing — otherwise the image may be lost.
- The forum automatically compresses images and converts them to WebP to save space and bandwidth.
Editing & Deleting
- Your own posts and replies have Edit and Delete buttons in the top-right corner (time limits may apply).
Mentioning Users
- Type
@username to notify someone, e.g. @GatekeeperMaxim.
Your Profile
- Click your avatar in the top-right → Settings to change your avatar, password, signature, etc.
2. Markdown Formatting
Markdown lets you format text with simple symbols. Type the symbols below, and they will render nicely after you post.

Code
- Inline code: wrap with single backticks, e.g. `
print("Hello") `
Rendered: print("Hello")
- Code block: wrap with triple backticks, optionally add a language:
def hello():
print("Hello, FlatBB!")
Rendered:
def hello():
print("Hello, FlatBB!")
Tables

3. LaTeX Math
The forum uses MathJax, so you can write math with LaTeX.
Inline Math
Wrap with $...$, for example:
$E = mc^2$
Rendered: $E = mc^2$
Display Math
Wrap with $$...$$ to center the formula:
$$
\int_0^\infty e^{-x^2} dx = \frac{\sqrt{\pi}}{2}
$$
Rendered:
$$
\int_0^\infty e^{-x^2} dx = \frac{\sqrt{\pi}}{2}
$$
Common Symbols
| Symbol | Syntax | Symbol | Syntax |
|---|
| Fraction | \frac{a}{b} | Square root | \sqrt{x} |
| Sum | \sum_{i=1}^n | Integral | \int_a^b |
| Limit | \lim_{x \to 0} | Infinity | \infty |
| Greek letters | \alpha, \beta, \gamma | Times | \times |
| Matrix | \begin{pmatrix} a & b \\ c & d \end{pmatrix} | Cases | \begin{cases} ... \end{cases} |
Multi-line Equations
$$
\begin{aligned}
a &= b + c \\\\
&= d + e
\end{aligned}
$$
Rendered:
$$
\begin{aligned}
a &= b + c \\
&= d + e
\end{aligned}
$$
Matrix Example
$$
\begin{pmatrix}
1 & 2 \\\\
3 & 4
\end{pmatrix}
$$
Rendered:
$$
\begin{pmatrix}
1 & 2 \\
3 & 4
\end{pmatrix}
$$
4. Tips
- Preview before posting — use the preview button to check your formatting.
- Formula not showing? Make sure your
$ and $$ are paired and have no extra spaces. - Images uploading slowly? The browser compresses them first, so give it a moment.
- Questions? Post in the forum or join our QQ group: 1106148649.
Enjoy your time on Gatekeepers Forum and share your notes and ideas freely!
